Helps define your audience. You should already have a good of your audience’s demographic; however, social media can help you refine this. You might find an audience you didn’t know you had.
Test your projects/products, ask followers to test for you. Once you have a following on social media, you can use your followers to get feedback – ask what they think, Polls-surveys etc… This can be powerful for affiliate marketing.

You will want to develop a strategy for using social media, remember you are running a business. For this reason, you want to set a few rules to start with and limit your time on social media.
You need to be active on social media to get a decent following, but that doesn’t mean you should be spending all your time on it either. Limit your sessions to 1/2hr at a time and schedule when you will do this. Be consistent; you might spend 1/2hr twice a day.
Schedule when you will write a post or tweet. You might do this a 7 am & 7 pm, for example. Be consistent your audience will get used to this and start looking for a post at certain times if they are engaging. Don’t fall into the trap of spending excessive amounts of time on social media; make a schedule that suits you and your audience.
Pick the top few you don’t need to do all social media.
The different social media platforms attract different demographics. You need to make sure you are on the right one. You want to be where your audience is, Facebook is the big one but not so much for millennials. Insta & Pinterest are more for brand building, whereas LinkedIn is more business networking.
Don’t try and build followings on them all at once. Pick one or two that suits your niche and regularly engage with quality content don’t just try and sell. Likewise don’t just post the content from your site that is just spamming. Be social to get engagement, ask questions, humanise yourself, share other people content.
Understanding Your Social Demographic
Know your Demographic who is your audience, where are your audience likely to hang out on social media. It is no good being on Facebook if your niche audience is not.
You should know what type of person reads your content, go where they are. Are they man/women, age, education, etc… these are all factors to consider. You might want to do some research first to find out where your audience is so you can better target them.

Don’t just post links to content all the time it will feel like spam. You need to engage your audience, ask them questions, write microblogs 100 words or so to get engagement. Follow other groups similar to yours, follow to be followed. You can also post in other groups and leave comments. This will ultimately lead to more followers for you.

Initially, you will spend a bit of time on social media after all you need a following before you can sell but be realistic about it. Once you have your pages up and running with a bit of content and a few followers, you should be able to track your visitors with Google Analytics and see where your visitors are coming from.
Don’t waste time on a social media platform if it is not working for you. Facebook groups and affiliate marketing should complement each other. If one platform is not working for you, see if you can find an audience in another one. Test & measure it the key.
